Tuesday noon

There's not a lot new to say today, but we wanted to make sure you all know what is going on.

Monday night was a long, long night. Even with the morphine she had, Mom was still in a lot of pain and was up a lot during the night. Dan and I were on opposite sides of her bed in a couple of fold-down chairs taking care of her. It's amazing how helpful it was to get a few hours of sleep, but neither of us was able to rest for more than a half hour at a time. I remember that at one point Mom woke up and said "blanket on my feet..." and Dan and I sat upright at the same time, grabbed the sheet on either side, pulled it down over her feet and immediately dropped back down onto our chairs. I think I almost laughed at that but I probably fell back to sleep first.

We are still moving towards hospice care today, but Linda has not yet made the decisions to remove the machines that are helping her stay conscious. Most of her treatment right now is pain management, so she's on a lot of morphine, but she still does have an IV drip and blood sugar level maintenance, along with a few other tubes and machines that she is hooked up to. Once she makes that last decision she will likely fall asleep pretty quickly. I'm just glad that she is being given the time and can ask for the guidance to make that decision and be at peace with it. She's asked to see the chaplain here and is waiting for a couple of visits from pastors.

We've got a borrowed computer set up in the room now most of the time, so when we see your comments we are passing them on to her when she's awake. We are also very grateful for the comments that you make for us, we are checking the blog regularly and taking comfort in your support.

Dear Linda, Dan and Heather,

Tell Linda "I Love Her" and am wishing her a peaceful journey and no more pain. Your Mom is a true Christian woman and let her know I have always admired her strength and honestly and friendship.

We are forever friends, Jeanne

Please tell Linda that I care for her very much and will miss her. I never realized until now how very strong she has been and how much pain she must have been in this last year but she would still have a smile. She always tried to keep the ML7 ladies from getting out of line and forewarned me a couple of times. She's also our resident photographer & historian as she always remembered previous employees of the library and will be missed. She has a great mind for detail. Linda thinks the world of both of you, Dan and Heather, so take comfort in her love.

Dan and Heather,

Please tell Linda thanks for being a good friend. And thanks for being my mentor during my early years at the library. God be with you. Love and Prayers, Mary

Tell Linda that I am thinking of the song "Suppertime" by Walter Brennan - both of us really liked it - about the Good Lord one day calling us all home for supper. Linda always had a smile and kind words. She always made an effort to get to know my student workers and make them feel special. She will be well rewarded for her kindness and goodness.

Linda is one of the most thoughtful people that I have ever met. She always brought a smile to my face even during the toughest of times. I only wish that I could do the same for her. Her friendship and loyalty are greatly appreciated and she is loved greatly by many. One does not realize how many hearts they touch throughout the course of time, but if they could, Linda would always know how special she is to all of us! God Bless all of you! Julie Dornack

Dear Linda,
Peace and love to you. Thank you so much for your friendship. I feel truly blessed knowing you. We met through scrapbooking - both of us wanting to keep memories alive for others. You have done that for Dan and Heather. Ben and I send you a hug. You are loved. Linda Winans

Tell Linda Hi. We shared student workers and I always admire her ability to remember people. I guess she just knows that people are important.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Dan and Heather,

Thank you for sharing news about Linda's condition, despite how stressful this situation is for all of you. As others have mentioned, Linda is the informal library "historian." Her photos and scrapbooks have documented many gatherings through the years. Even more, though, she holds an incredible number of names and dates in her memory. I've worked with Linda for more than 20 years, and I can't imagine the library without her. Just let her know that many people are thinking about her and praying for all of you during this difficult time. Words are so inadequate right now.

Dear Linda, Dan and Heather,
I am part of Linda's "ML7" and have always appreciated the way the group welcomed me to Memorial Library 7 years ago. I will always remember and treasure the fun we had in that group. I miss you, Linda. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
